This summer, Strong Towns Richmond Hill brought the community together for two free Bicycle Repair & Skills Workshops in July and August, and both were a tremendous success.
The workshops welcomed Richmond Hill residents of all ages, including kids, adults, families, and neighbours looking for cycling opportunities, local events, and a chance to connect with their community. Participants learned practical bicycle repair and maintenance skills while sharing stories, laughs, and plenty of good vibes.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants highlighting the helpful repair advice, friendly volunteers, and welcoming atmosphere. The August workshop filled up completely, with a sizable waitlist, and we were pleased to welcome Richmond Hill’s Ward 2 Councillor Scott Thompson and Family Services York Region’s Community Engagement Administrator Poopeh Aravandi for the afternoon.

A huge thank you to our volunteers, participants, and sponsors (the South-Central Richmond Hill Community Action Table, United Way Greater Toronto, York Region, and Family Services York Region) for helping make these events possible.
More than just bicycle workshops, these events created opportunities for people to meet their neighbours, build connections, and discover cycling as an affordable, healthy, and enjoyable way to get around.

The success of these two events reinforced something we already believe: community-building doesn’t always require a complicated plan. Sometimes, it starts with a bike, a few tools, shared interests, and a welcoming place to meet.
